Little Miracles

Today I had the fortune of riding up to Indianapolis with my wonderful sister-in-law, Meredith. We rarely, if ever, do anything together, just the two of us, and I so enjoyed her company. We had great conversation revolving around ingrown hairs and how to pick the best car seat. True genius, folks.

The reason for our trip was to visit friends. It just so happens that we both know people in St. Vincent Women's hospital. So we went up together to visit.

I was able to visit the entire Harroll (Bingham) family today. Ashley and Mike were both at the hospital and had Hank there to visit Toby. Let me first say, these kids are all Bingham. I look at them and I see Ashley's brother Austin. And boy are they cute. Hank faded in and out of sleep, but I did get my hands on him once and I just wanted to cuddle with him. He's such a pleasant little guy. And over 9 1/2 pounds! I'm pretty sure Ashley is happy that she didn't go full-term with that one.

But before I got my hands on him I robed up and got ahold of Toby. Yesterday he hit the 7 pound mark which is just awesome. I don't understand all of the terms, but I do know that he is on formula right now and he still has a pic line. They are hoping to start bottle feeding him again soon. If he's able to avoid the reflux problems when bottle fed then he will be on a clear path to get home. I think. I know that there are some other important things in there, but like I said, I don't understand all of the medical terminology.

I think that's it's interesting that we were up there at the NICU on the day that Casey Anthony was acquitted from all major counts. As you walk on the third floor in that hospital, you see all of these Moms that sit, day in and day out. Some don't get to hold their babies. Some just watch. Some read books, some talk to them, some sing. Most cry and all just wish they could get out of there with a healthy baby. And the sooner the better.

It makes you realize that life is precious. Don't take what you have for granted. Cherish your children. Hug them. Kiss them. Squeeze them. If they want to play, play with them. If they fall asleep in your arms, let them sleep. Because you never get those little moments back. Children are a blessing. A gift.

I leave you with a picture of Hank and a picture of Toby. Tomorrow we leave for a mini-vacation to St. Louis without Coop. Wish me luck in saying good-bye!
